Timothy I chapter 3

Timothy I 3:1
A + B Triggw þata waurd: jabai hvas aipiskaupeins gairneiþ, godis waurstwis gairneiþ.
— πιστὸς ὁ λόγος: εἴ τις ἐπισκοπῆς ὀρέγεται, καλοῦ ἔργου ἐπιθυμεῖ.
— This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
Timothy I 3:2
A + B skal nu aipiskaupus ungafairinonds wisan, ainaizos qenais aba, andaþahts, [gariuds], froþs, gafaurs, gastigods, laiseigs,
— δεῖ οὖν τὸν ἐπίσκοπον ἀνεπίλημπτον εἶναι, μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρα, νηφάλιον, σώφρονα, κόσμιον, φιλόξενον, διδακτικόν,
— A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Timothy I 3:3

— μὴ πάροινον, μὴ πλήκτην, ἀλλὰ ἐπιεικῆ, ἄμαχον, ἀφιλάργυρον,
— Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
Timothy I 3:4

— τοῦ ἰδίου οἴκου καλῶς προϊστάμενον, τέκνα ἔχοντα ἐν ὑποταγῇ μετὰ πάσης σεμνότητος:
— One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
Timothy I 3:5
A  iþ jabai hvas seinamma garda fauragaggan ni mag, hvaiwa aikklesjon gudis gakaroþ?
— εἰ δέ τις τοῦ ἰδίου οἴκου προστῆναι οὐκ οἶδεν, πῶς ἐκκλησίας θεοῦ ἐπιμελήσεται;
— (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
Timothy I 3:6
A  nih niujasatidana, ibai aufto ufarhauhiþs in stauai atdriusai unhulþins.
— μὴ νεόφυτον, ἵνα μὴ τυφωθεὶς εἰς κρίμα ἐμπέσῃ τοῦ διαβόλου.
— Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
Timothy I 3:7
A  skal auk is weitwodiþa goda haban fram þaim uta, ei ni atdriusai in idweit jah hlamma unhulþins.
— δεῖ δὲ καὶ μαρτυρίαν καλὴν ἔχειν ἀπὸ τῶν ἔξωθεν, ἵνα μὴ εἰς ὀνειδισμὸν ἐμπέσῃ καὶ παγίδα τοῦ διαβόλου.
— Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
Timothy I 3:8
A  jah swa diakaununs gariudans, nih faihufrikans, ni weina filu haftjandans, nih aglaitgastaldans,
— διακόνους ὡσαύτως σεμνούς, μὴ διλόγους, μὴ οἴνῳ πολλῷ προσέχοντας, μὴ αἰσχροκερδεῖς,
— Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
Timothy I 3:9

— ἔχοντας τὸ μυστήριον τῆς πίστεως ἐν καθαρᾷ συνειδήσει.
— Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
Timothy I 3:10
A  jaþ~þai þan gakiusaindau frumist jas~swa andbahtjaina ungafairinodai wisandans.
— καὶ οὗτοι δὲ δοκιμαζέσθωσαν πρῶτον, εἶτα διακονείτωσαν ἀνέγκλητοι ὄντες.
— And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
Timothy I 3:11
A  qinons samaleiko gariudos, ni diabulos, gafaurjos, triggwos in allamma.
— γυναῖκας ὡσαύτως σεμνάς, μὴ διαβόλους, νηφαλίους, πιστὰς ἐν πᾶσιν.
— Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
Timothy I 3:12
A  diakaunjus sijaina ainaizos qenais abans, barnam waila fauragaggandans jah seinaim gardim.
— διάκονοι ἔστωσαν μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρες, τέκνων καλῶς προϊστάμενοι καὶ τῶν ἰδίων οἴκων:
— Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
Timothy I 3:13

— οἱ γὰρ καλῶς διακονήσαντες βαθμὸν ἑαυτοῖς καλὸν περιποιοῦνται καὶ πολλὴν παρρησίαν ἐν πίστει τῇ ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ.
— For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Timothy I 3:14
A  þata þus melja, wenjands qiman at þus sprauto;
— ταῦτά σοι γράφω, ἐλπίζων ἐλθεῖν πρὸς σὲ ἐν τάχει:
— These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:
Timothy I 3:15
A  aþþan jabai sainjau, ei witeis hvaiwa skuld ist in garda gudis usmitan, saei ist aikklesjo gudis libandins, sauls jah tulgiþa sunjos.
— ἐὰν δὲ βραδύνω, ἵνα εἰδῇς πῶς δεῖ ἐν οἴκῳ θεοῦ ἀναστρέφεσθαι, ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐκκλησία θεοῦ ζῶντος, στῦλος καὶ ἑδραίωμα τῆς ἀληθείας.
— But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Timothy I 3:16
A  jah unsahtaba mikils ist gagudeins runa saei gabairhtiþs warþ in leika, garaihts gadomiþs warþ in ahmin, ataugids warþ þaim aggilum, merids warþ in þiudom, galaubiþs warþ in fairhvau, andnumans warþ in wulþau.
— καὶ ὁμολογουμένως μέγα ἐστὶν τὸ τῆς εὐσεβείας μυστήριον: ὃς ἐφανερώθη ἐν σαρκί, ἐδικαιώθη ἐν πνεύματι, ὤφθη ἀγγέλοις, ἐκηρύχθη ἐν ἔθνεσιν, ἐπιστεύθη ἐν κόσμῳ, ἀνελήμφθη ἐν δόξῃ.
— And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
